Urraca Earrings with Jade-18k Gold Plated

 

Handcrafted and individually cast, the Urraca earrings hang as half-hoops from a stud fastener and feature a jade gem at the center with a golden chain looped around its contours. Queen Urraca of Léon, Castille and Gallica (la temeraria or the reckless) was known for her ambition and boldness. Through strategic marriages she took on great power and pushed back against her second husband, who was overly superstitious and treated her unfairly, despite her own noble bloodline. Contemporary writers noted her ability to take charge and "perhaps too much control of events". These unique earrings measure 2.1cm (including chain) by 0.4cm.
